2/21/2018

GLENDALE, Ariz. – On Saturday, March 17, HealthSouth Valley of the Sun Rehabilitation Hospital will host its 3rd annual Amputee Running Clinic to help amputees relearn the skills needed to safely start running again.

Participants will be inspired and educated on how to safely train when running with a prosthetic device. The event will be held at Grand Canyon University from 9 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. with registration beginning at 8 a.m.

The HealthSouth Amputee Running Clinic is provided at no cost to amputee runners age years 10 and older. Attendees will be inspired by special guests including elite amputee runners Steve Martin and Lacey Henderson and former Paralympic track coach Bryan Hoddle. In addition, they will have access to state-of-the-art training components to trial during the clinic. Family members and support staff are welcomed to attend, and the event will occur rain or shine.

“Every day at HealthSouth Valley of the Sun, we have the honor of helping people return to independence after they’ve experienced a debilitating illness and injury,” said Lonnie Coughran, physical therapist assistant and organizer of the HealthSouth Amputee Running Clinic. “We are honored to host this event in conjunction with many great partners to help amputees safely learn or return to the activity of running.”
