HealthSouth Valley of the Sun to Host 9th Annual First Swing Golf Clinic

GLENDALE, Ariz. – HealthSouth Valley of the Sun Rehabilitation Hospital will host its 9th Annual First Swing Golf Clinic for people with disabilities on Saturday, Dec. 16 from 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. at Cave Creek Golf Course 15202 N. 19th Ave Phoenix, Arizona. Registration will begin at 8 a.m.

The class, led by professional golf instructor Peter Longo, is designed to teach and encourage people with disabilities to learn or re-learn the game of golf and is open to people of all ages who have experienced physical challenges related to conditions such as stroke, traumatic brain injury and amputation.

“Whether a person is learning how to play golf for the first time or getting back in the game, golfing is a great therapeutic activity that helps with skills such as balance, sequencing, fine motor skills, hand-eye coordination and concentration,” says Lonnie Coughran, physical therapist assistant and golf clinic coordinator for HealthSouth Valley of the Sun. “In addition, it’s also good for emotional and mental well-being to be outside doing something you love.”

There is no cost to participate, but to reserve your spot, call 623-334-5470. Other questions about the First Swing Golf Clinic may be directed to Lonnie at 623-334-5358.
